HI!! SO this is the beginning of my "How To" series!!
In the spirit of summer, I'm kicking the series off with a safe sun section!
Always remember SPF!! (even if you're not planning on staying in the sun for long)
How to get a good Tan without Burning
Do you have light skin or dark skin?
- Light skin will need a higher SPF sunscreen and dark skin that is not prone to burning needs a lower SPF.
- Don't sunbathe in the afternoon, as these are the hottest hours in the day, mostly 11am until 3pm.
- If you are going to be swimming or cooling off in a pool, make sure your sunscreen is waterproof, and reapply it every hour.
- Dark colors absorb sun so wear light colored clothes which will reflect the light and keep you cooler. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes.
- Don't lie in the sun for hours in a row. Every hour or half an hour, get up and cool off.
- If you do get sunburned, stay in the shade until it has healed. After you have gotten burned, have a cool bath and apply a cool compress to the burns to soothe them. (Aloe works well!)
- If you're young and burn very easy OR if you're just coming back from college and are super pale!!, use a factor 50/40 so your skin can get use to the sun.
This is the TANNING part!!!
- Exfoliate your skin using a loofah. This will remove DEAD SKINNNN
- Apply suntan lotion with a low SPF, such as 8 or 10. The suntan lotion should have a moisturizer in it, such as macadamia nut oil, as well as aloe vera. Aloe helps prevent burns, and keeps the skin moist.
- Lay out in an area that receives a lot of sun light.
- Tan for no more than 15 or 20 minutes the first time, and no more than 30 minutes each day thereafter.
- Wash your body with a moisturizing body soap. **Regular soap can dry the skin, making the tan fade faster.
- Repeat this entire process, minus the exfoliating, until you have reached your tanning goal.
SO basically. Try to have a burn free summer!! :D
Enjoy!
